Adult Carers & Young Adult Carers An adult Carer is an adult, aged 18 or above, who provides unpaid support for someone else. This may be because of illness, disability, age related needs or mental health. Unlike paid Carers, Adult Carers often begin caring to support someone they know - for example a family member or friend. They may not see themselves as a Carer - they see themselves as husband, wife, son, daughter. An Adult Carer may help with day-to-day living, support to maintain someone's safety or assist with household chores, medication and companionship. The amount of time caring for someone may depend on a person's needs, and can be anything from a few hours support each week to 24/7. A Young Adult Carer is someone aged between 18 and 25 who is in a Caring role. They may be providing personal care or emotional support, domestic tasks or general care. They might find it difficult to manage their caring role with school college or work, and feel isolated, and that friends don't understand what they are going through. Or they might feel their caring role has made them feel more confident. Click here to find out about the Support available to you Manage Cookie Preferences
